| [00:07] |
When love beckons to you, follow him, |
| [00:16] |
Though his ways are hard and steep. |
| [00:26] |
And when his wings enfold you, yield to him, |
| [00:36] |
Though he hides a sword among him. |
| [00:46] |
And when he speaks to you, believe in him, |
| [00:54] |
Though his voice may shatter your dreams. |
| [01:03] |
Love will crown and crucify you. |
| [01:07] |
And though for your growth so he is for your pruning. |
| [01:12] |
Love will caresses your tenderest branches, And shake every clinging root. |
| [01:23] |
Like sheaves of corn, he gathers you unto himself. |
| [01:32] |
He threshes and sifts you. He grinds and he kneads you. |
| [01:41] |
And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, |
| [01:50] |
That you may become sacred bread for God's sacred feast. |
| [01:58] |
All these things shall love do unto you, |
| [02:03] |
That you may know the secrets of your heart. |
| [02:09] |
And in that knowledge become a fragment, |
| [02:13] |
A fragment of life's heart. |
| [02:18] |
Now if in your fear you would seek only love's peace and love's pleasure, |
| [02:28] |
Better cover your nakedness and pass out of love's threshing-floor, |
| [02:36] |
Into a seasonless world where you shall laugh, |
| [02:40] |
But not all of your laughter, |
| [02:46] |
and weep, and weep, but not all of your tears. |
| [02:55] |
Love gives naught but itself, and takes naught but from itself. |
| [03:05] |
Love possesses not nor would it be possessed; |
| [03:10] |
For love is enough. |
| [03:20] |
You should say, "I am in the heart of God." |
| [03:26] |
You can not direct the course of love. |
| [03:30] |
If Love,it finds you worthy, directs your course. |
| [03:38] |
To wake at dawn with a winged heart; |
| [03:43] |
To come home in the evening with gratitude; |
| [03:47] |
Then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart, |
| [03:52] |
And a song of praise on your lips. |
